 David McPhie
Bookstore is owned and managed by David McPhie. David has been selling books for nearly 30 years, having opened many bookshops in and around Derbyshire, following his earlier career in the music industry.
David also pioneered the supply of specialist books to Stately Homes & National Trust properties, sourcing the most suitable history, heritage and topography titles to match the profile of the properties concerned.
Bookstore Brierlow Bar
Bookstore Brierlow Bar opened in 2001, and is the first time David was able to develop a retail bookshop operating to his own high standards. He now has the space available to display books in more than 50 category classifications, with a breadth and depth of stock sufficient to please both general and specialist book lovers and connoisseurs. Stock changes frequently to accommodate regular visitors, with some returning every weekend to browse and purchase the latest additions.
 In days gone by, the premises where Bookstore Brierlow Bar now stands were formerly a petrol station, garage and car sales business run by four brothers - the Bagshawe Brothers - fondly remembered in the area, not least for their eccentricity.
Bookstore at Oakmere
Bookstore at Oakmere opened in August 2009, and occupies the 3,400 square feet of the former Little Chef premises on the A556 at Oakmere, 10 miles west of Knutsford and 10 miles east of Chester. Bookstore at Oakmere replicates the proven formula of the original Derbyshire store, and upholds the Bookstore principles that David so strongly believes in – keen pricing, a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere and enormous choice. In David’s own words, “more books, more choice, more value!”
